Red Tilda, the Moonbat

I remember renting a perfectly awful movie once that starred Tilda Swinton, called "Orlando".  I rented it because the critics liked it, and because I like well-made, independent films.

But Orlando was not well-made.  It was awful, tiresome, and pretentious, lacking any kind of recognizable narrative thread.  After suffering through it for more than an hour, I switched it off and sent it back to Netflix.

Michelle Malkin has posted a link-loaded lowdown on "Red Tilda" that largely reveals what an insufferably pretentious person Swinton is.  This speech that she gave at the San Fran Film Festival is particularly tiresome, and I cannot recommend suffering through the whole thing (unless you need a cure for insomnia), but these excerpts give you a flavor of what she's about:

At the press conference in London for Disney's film, I was asked to chilling frisson in response, if I were still a member of the Communist Party. A friendly Spanish journalist reassured me later, sotto voce and with apology for her (American) colleague, that in Spain things are more clearly understood. The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there.

The fact is, as I clarified that day, I never stopped being a communist. The fact IS that the Communist Party of Great Britain no longer exists as such. That the party was morphed into the democratic left over ten years ago. That my membership of the party was an act of faith born out of an alliance with ideals of fairness and a commitment to a welfare state that it was clear to me then was in the process of being deserted by the parliamentary left.

And this:

But I love the idea of goose-stepping old Walt D. making over $700 million dollars with the help of a Red Witch. He is more than welcome. At least we made her whiter than white, the ultimate white supremacist, and we managed to railroad the kneejerk attempt to make her look like an Arab.

"Walt D." would be scratching his head at the suggestion that he was a Nazi, and it's a particularly odd comment in light of the fact that the most influential executives at Disney for at least the last two decades have been Jewish.

But it's a perfect illustration of the kind of hate you find on the left, these days.  The hard-left fanatics can't seem to find enough venom for the objects of their hatred.  It is no wonder that they increasingly align themselves with that other cult of hatred, radical Islam.

As to Red Tilda's remarks, Michelle can't resist pointing out the irony:

Capitalism and freedom make it possible for this woman to make a living.  The inspired creative work of the world's greatest Christian writer provided the basis for her biggest, most successful movie vehicle to date.  She shows her gratitude by trashing fascist Hollywood.

The funny thing is that many Hollywood types undoubtedly think that Swinton is right.
